The Plug’n Play: June (‘23)

You can listen to the full playlist on Spotify, Apple Music, or Tidal
The Monthly Roundup:
Throughout the month, Kevin and I select some of our favorite releases. In a lot of ways, this playlist — The Plug’n Play — is an extension of our text thread where we send new music to each other throughout the month. We hope you dig it! Songs 1-18 were selected by Kevin. Songs 19-30 were selected by me, Stanley. As always, we hope you find a song you like and check out the larger body of work (and don’t put the playlist on shuffle!).
Too Late — Terrace Martin (Featuring James Fauntleroy and Elena Pinderhughes)
LA natives, Terrace Martin and James Fauntleroy, have been collaborating for years. Their latest installment, on Martin’s new LP, is nothing short of amazing and indicative of the what the two are capable of when together.
Alive! — Bakar
Bakar’s a newcomer to the playlist for me. Listening to his new song, Alive!, I was immediately struck by the infectiousness of the chorus, the breezy, easygoing nature of the production, and the stripped down bridge. In many ways, Bakar’s new song is emblematic of a sound that’s grown more appealing to me in recent months.
Attention — Doja Cat
Doja Cat’s latest single, Attention, is wonderfully produced and composed: the harp, bass line, and backbeat on the drums offer the song a great deal of momentum. This all just sets the stage for Doja Cat’s vocal performance — as rapper and singer — where she shines especially bright. In the end, I’m selfishly hoping Attention is a sign of things to come from Doja Cat!
