Below are some of our favorite songs from the month, and a bit about why we love them. The first 13 songs were selected by me, Stanley and the second 16 songs were selected by Kevin. We hope you find a song you like, and check out the entire album!

Kevin: Mndsgn — Masque

Mndsgn probably dropped my favorite (read: best) project of 2021 so far. The album is meticulously produced - and the production for Masque, in particular, really feels like it was meant to send the listener straight into space. Mndsgn wants you to float away. The lyrics are simple - “the mask that you wear, take it off, you’re better off without it.” It seems like he wants the listener to relax and take it all in.

Kevin: Isaiah Rashad — Headshots

Zay season. It’s almost here. I feel like a kid in the backseat asking how much longer and the parent keeps saying “10 minutes.” It’s been a minute since Isaiah Rashad has dropped a project (over 1700+ days) but he let us know what type of space he is in with Headshots. This is the quintessential roll the windows down during a night ride type of music. And In my opinion, this is the best Zay there is. Soulful, half mumbling over the track, yet catchy. Zay tells someone in the beginning of the song that he “has a jam”. And I think he may be on to something with that assessment.

Kevin: Wayne Snow — The Thrill

I don’t know anything about Wayne Snow. I like it that way. I only need to know the music and his recent singles have definitely built anticipation for his upcoming album (Figurine). This song incorporates all the things that speak to my sensibilities - synths, funky guitar work, and great harmonies/vocals. He seems to have fallen off the Prince/D’Angelo tree and that is a great place to draw inspiration. And, in my opinion, at the very least, worth a listen.
