The Plug’n Play: September (‘23)

September 30, 2023

You can listen to the full playlist on Apple Music, Spotify, or Tidal

The Monthly Recap:

Throughout the month, Kevin and I select some of our favorite releases. In a lot of ways, this playlist — The Plug’n Play — is an extension of our text thread where we send new music to each other throughout the month. We hope you dig it!

Songs 1-15 were selected by me, Stanley. Songs 16-26 were selected by Kevin. As always, we hope you find a song you like and check out the larger body of work (and don’t put the playlist on shuffle!).

Too Far Gone — Devin Morrison

spliff game — LaMelle

Astral Plane — Say She She

Devin Morrison’s Too Far Gone was the first song I added to September’s playlist. It’s an exciting tune, and sees him venturing into a space, and sound, that I didn’t quite expect from him. He keeps getting better.

Over the course of September, LaMelle’s released a new song with each respective week. The songs are excellently produced and composed; intimate, honest, and reflective. I’d highly recommend checking out his music!

Back in January, I got the chance to see Say She She in concert at Philadelphia’s World Cafe Live. It was a magical show that left a lasting impression on me. At the time, Astral Plane — my selection for the playlist — hadn’t been released yet. Though, they did perform the song that night. Needless to say, I spent the night after the show obsessively looking for a recording of it, only to realize that they hadn’t released it yet. Well, thankfully, their full length LP, Silver is out now and I can listen to Astral Plane on repeat.
